Supporters Direct is a government initiative that was launched in August 2000 following a government report into the state of football clubs.
Funded by public money, the aim of Supporters Direct is to help football fans have a greater say in the running of their clubs. They can provide funding, training and advice.
Supporters set up trusts to influence how their club is run, and in may instances gain acquisition in shares or look for Supporters representatives being appointed to the clubs board.
Supporters Direct has given advice and financial help to over a hundred trusts throughout England, Wales and Scotland. Trusts have democratic and open to all supporters. There are many success stories from Clubs around the country, and at clubs such as Lincoln and York supporters trusts together with the help of Supporters Direct have been directly responsible for the Clubs survival.
